Sanjida Khatun’s birthday celebratedhVeternan Tagore exponent Sanjida Khatun’s 83rd birth anniversary was celebrated at the Ramesh Chandra Dutta Smriti Milan Kendra of Chhayanaut on Saturday.
The programme was organised by the friends, well-wishers and colleagues of Sanjida Khatun, who built her career on a lifelong passion for progressive cultural activates. She was one of the founders of the wartime Bangladesh Mukti Sangrami Shilpi Sangstha and currently chairperson of Chhayanaut.
She is also the recipient of Ekushey Padak, Bangla Academy Padak, Rabindra Puruskar, Kobi Jasimuddin Padak and several other awards and accolades.
Individual artistes as well as the artistes of Chhayanaut presented songs in solo and group performances at the programme.
A chorus comprising artistes of Chhayanaut presented Tagore songs Shuvro Samujjol Hey Chiro Nirmal and Dhanilo Ahobane. The songs delighted the listeners who gathered at the hall on that evening braving the rainy weather outside.
O Alor Pathojatri, a heart-touching song of Salil Chowdhury, was presented in chorus at the programme. The artistes also presented Fakir Lalon Shah’s timeless number Manush Bhaj which advocates men’s inherent dignity irrespective of their religious identities.
Eminent Nazrul singer Khairul Anam Shakil also performed at the event, presenting the former’s evergreen song Kuhu Khuhu Kokelia while Fahmida Khatun presented Aji Je Rajani Jay.
Besides, Laisa Ahmed Lisa, Iffat Ara Dewan, Mita Haque and Sharmin Sathi Islam also performed songs including Tomar Songe Bedechhi Amar Pran, Aay Re Basanto Tor, Din Sheshe Ranga Holo and Phul Phagun-er Elo Morshum respectively.
Earlier, artistes, cultural activists and representatives of different cultural organizations gathered separately at Sanjida Khatun’s Dhanmondi residence to greet her on her birthday.
