Poetry recitation marks Independence DayhRecitation troupe Bak Shilpangan observed the Independence Day with a poetry reading programme at the Rabindra Sarobar in Dhanmondi on Friday.
Titled Shekol Bhangar Poddo, the programme featured solo and group recitations by the members of the host organisation as well as invited organisations such as Tulika, Ankan and Khelaghor.
The event began with a chorus presentation of the motivational song Nongor Tolo Tolo by all the participating artistes.
Members of Bak Shilpangan and Khelaghor then recited a number of compilations consisted mainly of poems that addressed the 1971 war of liberation and themes of freedom and struggles.
‘The compilations were made keeping in mind the war of liberation and the country’s beauty and its people in general,’ said Nasiruddin, president of Bak Shilpangan.
Besides, a special honorary award was given to Safina Lohani for her contribution to improving the lives of Birangonas.
Cultural affairs minister Asadazzuman Noor handed over the award with Golam Kuddus, president of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, and Hasan Arif, general secretary of the Jote, in attendance.
