BSEC to sit with DSE board members to discuss prolonged market fall

April 29, 2015

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission will sit with members of the board of Dhaka Stock Exchange on Thursday following prolonged market fall to discus way outs, DSE officials told New Age on Tuesday. BSEC chairman M Khairual Hossian will preside over the meeting where BSEC commissioners Helal Uddin Nizami, Md Amzad Hossain, Arif Khan, Md A Salam Sikder, DSE chairman Siddiqur
Rahman Miah and managing director Swapan Kumar Bala are expected to attend.
DSE officials said that the meeting would discuss about the recent market situation and try to find out the reasons behind the trend.
Although, almost all sections of investors said that doubt over
holding free and fair city corporation elections and anticipation of post-elections political unrest made
investors shaky about the market prospect.
Besides, another section of investors, however, believe that the Bangladesh Bank’s tight monitoring of the banks and financial entities
to bring down their capital market investment was the main reason
behind the continuous fall in shares prices.
The key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange, DSEX, declined to an 18-month low at 4,094.47 points on Sunday as the index fell by 97 points on the day due to investors indiscriminate share sell-offs amid fear of further market fall.
Since October last year till Monday, the DSE fell by 1200 points.
