France honours Shahabuddin

Shahabuddin Ahmed, a renowned artist of Bangladesh living in Paris, has been awarded the French title ‘Chevalier de I’Ordre des Arts at des Lettres’ (Knight in the Order of the Arts and Literature).
In her congratulatory letter, Aurelie Filippetti, French minister of culture and communication, recognised artist Shahabuddin’s contribution and commitment to the culture of France.
This award is given to artists for their outstanding works in the literary or artistic field or for their contribution to culture in France or in the world, said a foreign ministry media release on Thursday.
A person becomes eligible for the title Chevalier (Knight) after rendering minimum 20 years of public service or 25 years of professional activity.
Earlier, renowned educationist and linguist Dr Muhammad Shahidullah and mime artist Partha Pratim Majumder received the same award in 1967 and 2011 respectively.
