BCL internal clash injures 10 at Dhaka College

At least 10 students, mostly activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), were injured during a clash between two rival groups of the organisation’s Dhaka College unit on the campus early Monday, reports UNB. Campus sources said two rival groups of BCL, student wing of ruling Bangladesh Awami League, locked in a clash inside a college hostel over supremacy on the campus at about 1:00 am.
Sources said both the groups, comprising of supporters of Sakib Hasan Swim, expelled general secretary of BCL Dhaka College unit, locked in clashes with lethal weapons, firearms and crude bombs, leaving 10 people injured.
Five motorcycles were also set afire during the clash, which ended at about 2:00 am.
Several rooms of a college hostel were vandalised during the melee.
Additional police forces went to the spot and took position outside the campus.
They brought the situation under control by firing several rounds of bullet.
Later, police detained several students from the campus.
Three seriously injured BCL activists–Jahid, 20, Rony, 22, and Jasim, 20, were admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, said Nayek Azad of DMCH police camp.
