Eight to die for killing Lalbagh commissioner

A trial court in Dhaka on Tuesday sentenced eight people to death for killing a commissioner in the capital’s Lalbagh area, after 18 years of the crime.
The third additional metropolitan sessions judge, Md Akhtaruzzaman, announced the verdict this afternoon. The death sentence convicts are: Sayed, Rashid, Farid, Harun, Siraj, Shwokat, Shiblu and Kamal.
Among the eight, the first five were produced before the court today while the rest had been absconding.
Haji Md Alim, the commissioner of ward no. 62, and also an Awami League leader was shot dead by these people during holy month of Ramadan in 1996.
The victim’s youngest brother, Haji Badruddin Babla, filed a murder case with Lalbagh police station, after a day of the murder, citing those people.
