Govt contemplates pay hike in kind

April 8, 2014

National Pay Commission chairman Farashuddin on Tuesday said they would put emphasis on other amenities rather than cash while writing recommendations on pay hike for the 1.2 million public servants. ‘We are considering so to check the price hike of the essentials,’ he told reporters after a meeting with finance minister AMA Muhith at the latter’s secretariat office. It becomes a common phenomenon in the country that traders make upward adjustment of the essential commodities’ prices whenever a pay hike is declared.
Farashuddin said other benefits would be like education allowances and health insurance.
The government appointed the commission last January with a six-month time.
Farashuddin said they were still at primary stage to prepare the recommendations.
He said they had already sought six-month extension of the commission’s tenure.
He hoped that they could submit recommendations before the Victory Day on December 16.
