Abahani keen to keep Kottan

July 1, 2015

Four-time league champions Abahani Limited are trying their best to retain the services of Austrian coach George Kottan for the rest of the season after his six-month contract with the club ended on Tuesday. The 68-year-old Kottan had agreed to work for FIFA under its goal project from July before he signed a contract with Abahani. As he was convinced the league will be ended by June, Kottan said he had joined the club to use his spare time. Abahani were also aware of the situation.
However, few unscheduled break delayed the league leaving the club in danger of losing their coach half-way through the competition.
‘It’s tough to leave the coach in the middle of the league,’ said Abahani’s football committee chairman Kazi Nabil on Tuesday. ‘We want him to renew his contract with us for the next two months.’
With the current schedule the Bangladesh Premier League will end in the middle of August.
Kottan said he has no problem to stay provided his new employer FIFA agrees.
‘Abahani requested me to stay and I informed the matter to FIFA. But they haven’t replied yet,’ said Kottan.
Abahani are now struggling at fourth position in the league table with 20 points from 11 matches.
